Take a leap of courage

img_20161106_233528-2

I remember that day. The dull grey clouds opened up to the bright blue water below me and the sun beat down on my skin. I felt the solid rock scraping the pads of my feet as I tiptoed towards the edge of the cliff.

“You gotta jump! You’re the only girl who’s doing it- you gotta rep for the girls!”, the boys laughed as they egged me on.

As I peered over the edge, I felt my nerves getting the best of me. The confidence and bravado I had was slipping away with every crash of ocean towards the rock. I probably shouldn’t have looked down. All I knew was that I wanted to do it. Yet my feet stayed glued on the solid earth underneath me.

I can do this, I told myself.

My heart pumped hard, my mind momentarily blocked out all distractions, I took a deep breath…and I jumped.

The moment took my breath away and it was exhilarating.

So I jumped.

Again and again.

Do something every day that scares you. It’s only when you put yourself to the test that you know what you’re capable of. You are capable of more than you know.

Let’s dance in the ocean

thaiboat

Thailand’s heat was hot and sticky as usual as I watched some fire dancers twirl their flaming batons round and round. This was my first night here on the island and I was so excited about everything that I couldn’t stop smiling.

Wow, I really can’t believe I’m really here right now.

Hannah was already wading in the ocean by the time I joined her. I followed suit and to my surprise, the water was hot. The sun had long set (usually around 6pm every day) and yet the water has not cooled down. Does it ever?

Our group of friends decided to ditch the beach party too and joined us in the ocean. Sand squished between my toes, I felt like there was not a care in the world. We later had the idea to switch into our bathing suits, and because our hostel was right on the beach, it was easily accessible.

We swam in the warm Thailand waves until the late AM.

At one point, I swam out to this wooden fishing boat and being the little troublemaker that I am, I climbed onto it. I looked up at the stars above me and the company laughing around me and I thought..I want to keep this moment forever. Embrace the moments of being young and reckless. This night was one of my favourite nights.
